Mayflower Secures Long Term Future

For information only, no action needed.

We would like to inform you of some changes that will take effect at Mayflower Medical Group on April 1, 2024. This letter will highlight the changes and reassure you that your surgery will continue to operate as usual.

NHS Devon is responsible for planning, paying for, and monitoring GP practices in Devon and we make sure that the people registered with Mayflower Medical Group have access to a full range of GP services and care.

Your GP practice, which is currently run by Livewell Primary Care Group, is part of a larger organisation known as Mayflower Medical Group, running five sites:

  1. Stirling Road Surgery
  1. Ernesettle Medical Centre
  1. Mount Gould Primary Care Centre
  1. Trelawny Surgery
  1. Mannamead Surgery

Livewell Primary Care Group are contracted to run the Mayflower service on a temporary basis until 31 March 2024.

In June 2023 the Devon Integrated Care Board (ICB) decided to identify a new, permanent provider, unfortunately after careful consideration Livewell Primary Care Board were regrettably unable to take part in the process for the longer-term provider.

Therefore, from 1 April 2024 we are pleased to announce that Fuller and Forbes Primary Care Group will run the practice as part of a longer-term arrangement.

Dr Mark Fuller and Mr Methven Forbes, who run Fuller and Forbes Primary Care Group, are delighted to be supporting general practice in Plymouth by taking over responsibility for the Mayflower Medical Group.  They have extensive experience of running successful general practices in other parts of the country, including in Devon.

We are working closely with Livewell Primary Care Group and Fuller and Forbes Primary Care Group to ensure a smooth transition in the handover, with minimal disruption to patients and staff. Our expectation is that staff currently employed at the practices will continue in their roles and will transfer to the new employer.

As a reminder, you do not need to take any action and you do not need to register at another GP practice. Please do not contact the practice about this as their phone lines need to remain free for patient care.

As we get closer to April 2024, we will be in touch again to remind you about the changes and let you know if there is anything you need to be aware of.

Yours sincerely

Jo Turl
